We receive roughly 50,000 pieces of spam everyday.
Most of it is weeded out globally by our Spam Filter that is constantly updated on SPAM threats.
This is a very large hammer that handles most threats to the organization
Outlook uses a finer mesh that can be tweaked per individual not the organization.
It uses an algorithm to learn what you consider junk or spam is and moves it over to the junk folder.
This can lead to some "False Positives" because it is using words, links, and images you considered in the past to be junk
and then applies it to an email you want to receive.
Here is a step by step guide to "white list" or permanently make email from reliable sources to show up in your inbox and not your junk mail.
1. Click on the “Junk Mail” folder in the Navigation Pane.
2. You will see any messages Outlook has classified as junk listed in the middle pane.
3. To move an incorrectly classified message back to your inbox, right-click on the message, and in the context menu, select junk > not junk
4. You can also
configure your Junk Mail options to avoid future messages being as spam/spam
messages being missed.
To do so, from
the Home tab, select Junk > “Junk E-mail Options” (you can also right click
on a message in the Junk Mail folder, then select “Junk E-mail Options”).
5. In this window, you can set your Junk E-mail protection level. The recommended level is Low.
6. You can also add senders to your list of “Safe Senders” (Junk E-mail filtering will not block messages from these senders) if you know their E-mail address.
